Recipe: Grilled Peach & Bourbon Smash! | Stamford Moms

Cheers to the last few weeks of summer by enjoying this recipe for a Grilled Peach & Bourbon Smash cocktail from Camp Cocktails: Easy, Fun, and Delicious Drinks for the Great OutdoorsMixologist, author, and mom of two Emily Vikre tells our parent site The Local Moms Network that she created this to go with her family’s favorite BBQ food—ribs. “This grilled peach smash is the perfect accompaniment. Grilling the peaches brings out their sweetness and concentrates their flavor, while just a hint of char pairs beautifully with any barbecue,” says Emily.

Ingredients:

½ grilled peach
½ ounce (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
½ ounce (15 ml) maple syrup
2 ounces (60 ml) bourbon
Splash of soda water or ginger beer

Directions:

  1. To grill peaches, cut them in half and place them, cut side down, on an already hot grill.
  2. Cook, undisturbed, until grill marks start to appear (4 to 5 minutes), then flip and cook for 4 minutes on the second side. Allow to cool before using in a cocktail.
  3. To make the cocktail, in a shaker, muddle the peach. Add the lemon juice, maple syrup, and bourbon, then add enough ice to fill the shaker two-thirds full. Shake until well chilled.
  4. Double strain into a double rocks glass filled with ice and top with a splash of soda water or ginger beer.

Note: Like any cocktail with a lot of soft muddled fruit, this drink is a little slow to strain because the fruit has a tendency to clog up the strainer. If you don’t mind fruit chunks in your cocktail, you can just strain through your cocktail strainer and not worry about double straining. Or you can even drink the cocktail with all the fruit in there. You do you!
