Stamford Stars 12U Softball Team is headed to the Babe Ruth World Series in Florida’s Treasure Coast. This team is unstoppable. After winning the State Championship in Brookfield Connecticut they traveled to Barrington New Hampshire to face some of New England’s toughest teams. They won the championship game 8-0, shutting out the Londonberry Lightning to take home the trophy. Now they are headed to the league’s biggest competition where they will face some of the best Babe Ruth Softball teams in the country.
This team of 12 girls is at the top of their game. This season, they have been led by coaches Karen Cella and Michelle Woodbury. Starting pitchers Mattingly Fox and Olivia Manewal combined for 23 strike outs during their Regional games. They are supported in the field by Mia Loffredo at 1st, Gianna Esposito at 2nd, Ryann Guida at short and Shea Sullivan at 3rd, backed up by Hannah Patterson, Brook Vetti, Ella Schick, and Faith Conetta in the outfield. Catchers Emma Drexel and Karina Kumar protect home plate. The stars’ bats have been on fire too. The team’s slugging percentage is just over 500 and these batters have faced down some top-notch pitchers over the past several weeks.
This year marks the first time since 2014 that Stamford’s 12u team has earned a spot in The World Series.
Unfortunately, unlike the Little League World Series, this competition comes with a hefty price tag for families. The team must raise $30,000 to cover travels costs, meals, lodging and fees for the players, coaches, and families. They have started a Go Fund Me and local restaurants are hosting fundraising nights where a percentage of sales will be donated to the team. If businesses would like to sponsor the team, they may call: Bryan Fox or Michael Orgera.
