Stamford Public Schools Offers FREE Technology Classes for Parents - Stamford Moms

From Stamford Public Schools

Stamford Public Schools’ (SPS) Office of Family and Community Engagement (OFCE) recently launched a series of free technology classes for parents, guardians and community agencies to help them better support their students and more effectively utilize school and district communications and learning platforms. One role of OFCE is to provide families with information about, and the support needed to access, resources in our schools and community.

The OFCE Advisory Committee, which includes members of the OFCE team, parent facilitators, parents, community members, teachers, administration and staff, meets on a regular basis to share information and gather input from parents and community members on ways in which the district could provide additional support. As a direct result of the feedback shared, OFCE worked with SPS teachers to create a series of Technology Classes to support families. Each of the classes will be facilitated by trained volunteers, which include parents and community agencies.

“Listening to our families and community members to better understand their needs and barriers to learning is essential to our work,” said Associate Superintendent for School Development Olympia Della Flora. “The district provides many opportunities for families to connect with their children’s learning at school; these workshops provide opportunities to further equip our families with valuable tools to make meaningful connections.”

Classes are available in English and Spanish on the following topics: Google Meet, Remind Application, PowerSchool Parent Portal, Chrome/Gmail and the SPS website. Additionally, in an effort to assist families in navigating the often-confusing COVID-19 Vaccine Registration process, classes on this topic are also offered.

To register for any of the classes, family members should go to the OFCE Calendar on the district website. If anyone needs assistance with the registration process, video tutorials are available in English and Spanish on the SPS Parent University page, which also has links to all of the Pop-Up Webinars, as well as other helpful resources.
