Stamford Learning Center Celebrates SEL Awareness Month | Stamford Moms

Choosing love is important for all of us, every day and it’s something we all want to teach our children. Building Blocks Early Learning Center is helping families make LOVE a part of their children’s daily lives by celebrating Social & Emotional Learning Awareness Month throughout February.

This is part of the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement initiative, which celebrates and promotes all the benefits of SEL with a call to action for educators, students, families and communities across the country, as well as around the world! SEL Awareness Month is meant to highlight the importance of teaching children skills that go beyond academics to help them thrive physically, mentally and emotionally. SEL is a proactive and preventative mental health initiative that the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement website says has been proven to reduce anxiety, addiction and behavioral issues while increasing student performance, in addition to physical and emotional well being.

The site also says that students who have SEL as part of their instruction, have success in a variety of areas including academics, positive social behavior, fewer conduct problems and less emotional distress. It’s also something you can promote at home! See below for ways to encourage your children to choose love!

The program covers all age groups, from infant through high school and even adults. It’s now being taught in all 50 states and have been downloaded multiple times in over 65 countries.

This month, BBELC is capturing moments of Courage, Gratitude, Forgiveness, Compassion and Kindness at all of their centers and sharing them! They are also posting photos on their Facebook page along with quotes encouraging love! Christine Bartell, President of Education at BBELC explains, “At Building Blocks we understand the importance of Social Emotional learning! That’s why we were one of the first Early Learning Centers to integrate the Choose Love curriculum into our daily routines and schedules. By taking the Choose Love pledge our staff models the importance of showing kindness and helps our children learn Gratitude, Forgiveness, Compassion, and Courage.”

Below is a look at how children at BBELC are choosing LOVE in February through crafts, hugs and by helping one another!
