SPS Kindergarten Assessments for the 2024-2025 School Year | Stamford Moms

The age requirement for a child can entering kindergarten in the state of Connecticut has changed. A child must now be 5 years old by September 1 of that year, rather than by January 1 of the following year, to begin kindergarten.

This will take effect beginning in September 2024.

However, if your child turns 5 years old on or after September 2, 2024 and you would like your child to begin kindergarten during the 2024-2025 school year, you may apply for early kindergarten admission through Stamford Public Schools (SPS). Click here to learn more from the online information session.

According to the district, the early admission process through SPS will include a play-based assessment by certified Stamford Public Schools preschool or kindergarten teachers.
