Meet the Author: Tim McGrath | Stamford Moms

Happy Father’s Day, dads! I’m excited to celebrate with a conversation I had with the author of the children’s book, “Donut Touch My Broccoli.” Tim McGrath grew up in Stamford and is now dad to two daughters.

Tim says he got the idea for the book from watching how his daughters, nieces and nephews eat. “I wanted to empower children with the knowledge to make their own decisions and their own habits at a very, very young age,” he explains.

In the book, two sisters battle over what to eat for lunch while playing. The older wiser sister is trying to teach her little sister about healthy eating habits, while the younger sister just wants donuts. The book ends with a recipe, workbook pages, and a few coloring pages.

Tim says he wants to teach children moderation when deciding what to eat. “You go to a kids menu and you see chicken fingers and fries, hot dogs, pancakes and they’re ok once in a while but if you eat that every day, it puts you in a bad place,” he explains. He says he really wants to teach children to love, learn and explore with new foods and is taking his message to elementary schools across Stamford. “It’s more of a food revolution than just a book, in my eyes.”

Tim plans to turn this book into a series and has already gotten started on his second book. “The next book is about them going grocery shopping. And them going to the supermarket. Also a cute little story. But in that one it’s going to be a shopping list instead of a recipe,” he explains.

“Donut Touch My Broccoli” is available on Amazon!
