Meet Lauren! - Stamford Moms

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
I have one beautiful two year old boy

What do you love about Stamford?
The sense of community is what makes Stamford so special; we not only see that first hand now in the crisis we are in, but on a daily basis as well.

What are your favorite restaurants in Stamford?
We definitely have our favorite “go to” restaurants including Hope pizza, Remo’s pizza, Cheesecake Factory, the Wienery and so many more! Stamford has great places to eat for sit down dinners as well as on the go places which come in handy when you’re a working mom!

Tell us about your career as a nurse.
I started working at Bridgeport Hospital for a few years after attending school in Bridgeport, but knew I wanted to transition to Stamford after gaining experience. I have been with Stamford Hospital for the last four years now and don’t plan on leaving anytime soon!

Why did you decide to become a nurse?
I enjoy helping people and take pride in knowing we as nurses are able to make a difference in someone’s life.

What’s the best thing about your job?
The best thing about being a nurse is it’s a rewarding, diverse, and flexible career. As a nurse we are not only the eyes and ears for the doctors, but we are there to comfort the patient as well as their families. They look to us for security, compassion, and strength.

How do you juggle work and mommyhood?
Juggling work and being a mom is a challenge. The flexibility of not having a regular Monday through Friday job does help. After having my son and realizing the day shift meant less hours spent with him, I made the switch and now work night shifts which works better for us for the time being. Being a mom and working is a balance of prioritizing what’s important even if it means leaving laundry for another day to have extra quality time together.

How has your job changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic?
My job has definitely changed in many ways since the start of COVID-19. To name a few, Our nurse to patient ratio has increased therefore increasing our task load, our critical thinking skills are tested that much more being that we are lacking staff, and I am much more cautious when returning home to not let clothes or myself touch anything until cleaned.

What’s your advice to moms in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis?
My advice to moms would most importantly be to not panic. Our kids look to us for security and comfort. They feed off our energy. Be cautious when venturing out to the grocery store or wherever necessary stops are needed, but really try to use this time to spend with your immediate family at home. Call your extended families and friends using FaceTime/Zoom. If there is one thing I can stress it would be to tell your loved ones how much you love them everyday.
