Meet Dr. Deena Ebright, a local mother of two who works as a general internist. Affiliated with Stamford Health Medical Group, she runs a busy practice in New Canaan. She and her husband, Michael, moved from Boston to Stamford with their two sons in 2014. Learn what Deena loves about the area, her children’s school and some words of wisdom for living life well.

Tell us about your family.
My husband Michael and I have 2 children. Ryan is 20 years old, and is a sophomore at Tulane University. Brody is 15 years old, and is a sophomore at St. Luke’s School.

When did you move to Stamford and what led you to settle here?
We moved from the Boston area to Stamford in 2014. Michael is a thoracic surgeon, and he was recruited by Columbia Presbyterian and Stamford Hospital, to start a program in thoracic surgery at Stamford Hospital.

What are your favorite family activities in the area?
We love to play golf and tennis as a family. We also enjoy walking our dog, Ziggy, in the neighborhood, or at Irwin Park in New Canaan.

Do you work and/or volunteer? If yes, please tell us more.
I am a general internist, employed by Stamford Health Medical Group. I have a busy practice in New Canaan, caring for adults, aged 18 to almost 100.

When did Brody begin attending St. Luke’s School?
Brody started attending St. Luke’s School in 2021, as a freshman.

What about St. Luke’s makes it a fit for your family?
Brody had a very easy transition to St. Luke’s School as a new freshman. The St. Luke’s community has been extremely welcoming to Brody, Michael, and me. The small class sizes allow the teachers to know each student well. St. Luke’s has a wonderful balance of rigorous classes, an amazing selection of clubs and extracurricular activities, and incredible community service opportunities.

Name one thing people would be surprised to know about you.
I have seen every single episode of Grey’s Anatomy. I have been a devoted fan for the last 17 years!

When you need “me time,” what are your favorite ways to escape?
The only true “me time” that I have during the workweek is my early morning workout. I get up at 4:45am, and get on my Peloton bike by 5am every Monday through Friday. A thirty-minute ride clears my brain and energizes me for the day! I NEVER miss a day.

What’s the best advice you’ve received from another mom?
While it is tempting to want to do everything for our children, I have come to appreciate the importance of allowing my children to become independent teens and adults. Sometimes we need to let our children make mistakes or bad decisions, so they can learn and grow from the experience.

Any words of wisdom for living life well?
Exercise daily.
Eat a clean diet.
Smile and laugh multiple times during the day.
Tell your family members that you love them often.
Get a dog…it was truly the best thing we did for our family during the pandemic!

We like to support local businesses. What are your favorite places in the area to:
Have dinner: Inn at Pound Ridge
Grab a drink with friends: Rockrimmon Country Club
Have a date night: Dinner at Prime in Stamford
Spend time together as a family outdoors: Walking our dog Ziggy in Irwin Park, Waveny Park, or Mianus Park.
Grab coffee: I do not drink coffee, but I buy coffee beans for Michael at Zumbach’s.
