Meet Briana! | Stamford Moms

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
I have 3 children; 9 ½ year old twin boys, Parker and Emmet, and a 3-year-old little girl named Catherine.

What do you love about living in Stamford?
I love what a close knit and connected community Stamford is. My kids are always shocked at how many people I know in their school because I was born and raised here and decided to stay and raise my own family locally. There is something special about multigenerational relationships and the trust it builds within a community.

What’s your favorite restaurant and/or place to shop in Stamford?
I enjoy running so anything downtown is always a convenient location for me…stopping at Lorca for a tea or the farmers market during the summer months is fun. I also enjoy shopping at Awesome Toy when I need to get a birthday party present or treat for my kids.

Tell us about Assisted Living Locators.
We are a free resource for families looking for advice regarding care and housing for their loved ones. Founded by a discharge planner 20 years ago in Arizona, our goal is to help families navigate the next steps for their elderly loved ones. We can offer guidance for home care services as well as placement into an assisted living or memory care community. In addition, we have a network of elder care attorneys, financial advisors, Veterans Group Aid benefits, and other resources that we can share as needed.

How does it work since it’s at no cost to families?
We are able to help families find the best option for their loved one(s) as well as provide other resources at no charge. We have the potential to make a commission if/when a client moves into a senior living community that we have a contract with but also do a significant amount of work pro bono.

How is the service helpful for families?
It can be very difficult to navigate options as seniors age and need additional care or oversight. There is usually a large amount of responsibility put onto their adult children or extended family members. Those people are often working a full-time job, raising a family, and running a household. We can help to alleviate some of the hurdles and time wasted researching by offering concise, organized options and walking families through the best options for their scenario.

What is your advice to families who have an elderly loved one and are looking for help?
Find a local resource that can help you with their knowledge of the system and different options. I wish my family was aware of the services provided by Assisted Living Locators years ago when we were dealing with my grandfather and his Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Also, start the process much further in advance than you originally think is needed and always have a plan A and B as backup. The most difficult time to begin navigating this process is during a crisis so be prepared.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?
Enjoy each stage (even the tough ones) and take it day by day because they go fast!
