Meet Amy! | Stamford Moms

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
Two, ages 2 and 6

What do you love about living in Stamford?
I love having access to so many great activities for children, restaurants and schools. We are so lucky to be centrally located. Close to NYC as well as beautiful outdoor places like Mianus Park and local beaches.

What’s your favorite restaurant and/or place to shop in Stamford?
I love to support local like Havana Jeans and local pizza restaurants like Luigi’s Pizza. For date night I like Columbus Park Trattoria it Olio. Of course I love Target for shopping as well!

What’s your favorite thing to do when you need some “me time”?
Get a pedicure at Cosmo on High Ridge!

Tell us about your career.
I started in fitness at age 19, I took a couple years off to pursue other jobs over the years, finish college etc., but always came back to fitness. I am a certified Personal Trainer and have trained in almost every aspect of fitness including prenatal fitness, post-rehab, children’s fitness as well as yoga and Pilates. Right now my passions are yoga, Pilates and strength training. It’s important to keep reinventing yourself and never stop learning. My Facebook page is Get Fit with Amy LLC.

What do you like about working in fitness?
There are constant opportunities to learn new things and teach new things. I love teaching outdoor community classes like the stroller class and yoga at Mill River Park. I’ve taught everything from kickboxing to hula hoop dance workouts. I love bringing fitness to people and making it fun.

What is you #1 tip for moms who want to get in shape?
Start slow but don’t stop! Add a little more each day even if you have to break it up into 10 min increments. 30 day challenges are a fun way to start. Also find something you don’t hate! Fitness should be fun.

How do you juggle work with mommyhood?
I am lucky to have family to help.

Why did you start Fab Moms Chat (Stamford/Norwalk)?
I started as part of our meetup group to make mom friends and network. I’ve made so many friends through the group and I am very grateful for that.

What has it been like seeing the following grow?
Exciting! I like how it has become a place for helpful information and for people to meet other moms. I especially like helping newcomers to the area so they can feel more at home. I also want to support local mom-run businesses.

What do you hope moms get out of the page?
I hope they find a sense of camaraderie and maybe find their village. I at least hope people can find some fun activities or local tips from other moms!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?
Don’t worry about what other people say about your parenting style. You do you!

Amy recently started a YouTube page for her yoga and fitness videos. She will be adding new classes weekly. Find them here.
