Mexicue and Elm Street Diner

Tell us about your business, We Got You!
I started this venture as a hobby turning into a small business. We provide intricate event décor, themed birthdays, showers and pop up picnic setups. We also provide gift and snack baskets customized for all occasions.

Why did you decide to launch your business?
I believe the strength that I have gotten since becoming a Mom has given me the courage to kick off this business. Us moms make amazing leaders. After all, we’re not shaken easily, we’re resourceful, can juggle multiple responsibilities, inspire and influence others, and be both sympathetic and firm. We also have great intuition. All of those traits are needed to be a successful entrepreneur.

What do you love about party planning?
What I love most about event planning is the moment when everything comes together, and the magic unfolds before your eyes. When all the hard work pays off and you finally get the satisfaction of seeing your vision become reality. The experience of having pulled it off-sometimes against the odds-is really quite hard to beat!

What’s your #1 tip for moms when they’re hosting an event?
Repeat after me: Less is more. I know you want to make five desserts, but you only need one.

How do you juggle work and mommyhood?
I try to be strategic with time management to avoid feeling stressed and do what can be done the night before. Doing this reduces the risk of being rushed and forgetting things. Prioritizing tasks is extremely important, making a list of 3-4 tasks that need to get done that day and crossing them off as I go helps. In addition to this, finding time for yourself is crucial in maintaining inner peace and balance, so try to find an activity that allows you to relax and recharge.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?
There is a tiny dose of mom guilt that can be productive but it can become harmful when it starts to impact your decision that you previously thought to be correct based on what’s right for your own child and family.
