Meet A Mom: Wendi! | Stamford Moms

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
I have two boys, almost 21 and 18. Both are in college.

How did you end up in Stamford?
My husband’s job brought us here right after we married 27 years ago.

What’s your favorite family activity in Stamford?
When my boys were young we loved the Nature Center and Chestnut Hill Park. Now that they are older we enjoy runs at Mianus Park and coffee at Lorca or Turning Point!

What are your must haves when you leave the house with the kids?
Our reusable water bottles!

What’s been your favorite “mommy moment” so far?
There have been so many, but I think my favorite memory is walking my boys to & from school holding their hands and hearing about what they learned. Now that they are young adults I take great joy in seeing what amazing people they have become.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you need some “me time”?
Running or reading are great alone activities.

Why did you decide to open Inspire Fitness?
Honestly, at first it was necessity. I was a stay at home mom and loved it. Then the financial crisis of 2008 happened and we needed additional income. But as I pursued studying to become a certified personal trainer, I realized how much I loved it. It is a joy to help people be healthy and fit.

What’s been the best part of owning the gym?
Connecting with people and having them feel good about themselves and be healthier. Having my boys & their friends come in and workout with me is a blast! My youngest son is even studying to become a trainer.

How does it help you connect with the community?
I have so many people I get to meet and be with and I really love having a range of people from teens to seniors. We also do a lot of charity events. Hope in Motion is an especially great way to connect with our community.

What’s one tip you have for busy moms looking to get in shape?
This was advice I took to heart when I was a young mom that has guided me… You’re like a bank account, if you keep taking withdrawls, there will be nothing left. It is so important to take care of yourself,  to be there for your kids and to be a good role model. If you don’t prioritize your well-being, you will teach that to your kids. There is a quote “Take care of yourself, you never know when the world will need you”. Also find a friend to workout with, or a trainer!

How do you balance work & mommyhood?
I was fortunate that my husband and I work well together to take care of the kids. We have been partners in this. When my work meant leaving the house before 6 a.m., he took over the morning routine. It’s hard to balance everything but we do our best. I try to prioritize what matters most in the long run.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?
It’s ok to be just good enough!
