Meet a Mom: Lauren | Stamford Moms

How many kids do you have and what are their age(s)?
One little boy, Ben, who just turned 2.

How long have you lived in Stamford? What made you decide to live here?
I moved to Stamford in October 2016, so just coming up on two years. Before moving here, my husband and I were living in London, where we met. My husband is French, and I am American so in London we were really separated from family. After becoming pregnant we knew that we wanted to move Stateside to be closer to my family (though they’re still down in MD, at least there’s no flying involved). My husband works in finance so proximity to Manhattan was a must, and I wanted a yard – so…Stamford was it!

What’s your favorite family activity in Stamford?
THE BEACH! I am from the middle of nowhere MD, the fact that I am so close to the beach is just mind-blowing to me! We love to go down to the water with my son’s kiddie pool and trucks and picnic in the sand.

Where’s your favorite place to eat in Stamford?
With or without kids?! Tomato Tomato is a family favorite. The first time we went there our son was 2 months old, and I have been so impressed time and time again how friendly and welcoming they are to families with children. Without kiddos, we love Table 104. The food is delicious, and the atmosphere is really fun.

What are your diaper bag must haves when you leave the house?
I’m enjoying that mom phase where I can now leave the house with an oversized purse with a few diapers stuffed in it. I’m loving not toting a full diaper bag! But, we do always have our paci, a car/truck/train vehicle of some sort, water and raisins, chapstick, and some sort of electronic device that can play Elmo should disaster strike.

What’s been your favorite “mommy moment” so far?
It’s so hard to pick one. I love those little moments when my iron-willed, stubborn, independent little guy really needs to be held and really curls into me. Those moments make my heart explode. Christmas morning is also a close second!

What’s your favorite thing to do when you need some “me time”?
Wine. Binge watch TV. Wine. Exercising. Wine. Pedicure. Wine. And…#nojudgmentzone…I really love putting together IKEA furniture.

Tell us about being an instructor for Fit4Moms.
I completely underestimated this job when I first expressed interest. If you’ve never been to a Stroller Strides class, firstly, WHY NOT? And secondly, the premise of the class is that moms get a workout while the instructors sing and entertain the kiddos. So you really need to juggle a lot and be a fitness instructor, friend, caregiver, babysitter, wellness coach, singer, entertainer, tantrum-wrangler, and so much more!

Why did you get started?
I found FIT4MOM about 3 months after moving to Stamford. At that point I had met a couple of moms, but was still really looking for that day in and day out routine. My first class, I was hooked. In a time where I was being selfless for this little human, I was able to take time and look after myself. It was so liberating and I couldn’t stop coming. I finally saw some of that baby weight shifting. I found my Village, I found mom friends who truly got it, and opened up about the realities of motherhood, and I just knew I wanted to be a part and bring that to other mamas.

What do you like about being a fitness instructor for Fit4Moms?
I love watching moms change and become confident in themselves as they grow. I love the rapport we build and the physical as well as social elements of the class. I love watching the babies grow up and change and develop, and I love that as the instructor there may occasionally be some baby rocking and snuggles involved!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?
It’s not specifically advice for motherhood, but my mom always told me you have to do what makes you happy. That advice has guided me through a lot of my life, and as a mom, it has forced me to look at situations and realize that sometimes I do need to recognize what I need to achieve happiness to make me the best mom I can be.
