Meet A Mom: Kim | Stamford Moms
How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
We have two boys — Augie is 6 and Maverick is 3.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Port Chester (Go Rams!) but when I was growing up Stamford always seemed like the fun, energetic city just over there.
Why did you move to Stamford?
We were living in Brooklyn until 2014 when we moved our family to Stamford. Augie was only 2 then and Maverick hadn’t been born yet, but we fell in love with Stamford immediately. I had been living in Los Angeles for 5 years before we lived in Brooklyn for 5 years so I wasn’t ready to give up on my urban life just yet. Stamford had everything we were looking for.
What’s your favorite family activity in Stamford?
When the weather is nice we like to go to Mill River or Scalzi Park. When the weather is not so nice we still love Stamford Town Center. I grew up as a mall rat. Don’t knock it ’til you tried it!
Where’s your favorite place to shop or eat in Stamford?
We always eat at Fortina when we get a chance to eat out. Christian Petroni (the Chef/Owner) married my sister Sheri so he’s family. And he makes incredible food. I hit up Sephora pretty regularly and you’ll find me at ShopRite, Target and CVS eight days a week.
What are your diaper bag must haves when you leave the house?
Snacks, water bottles and a plethora of wipes.
What’s been your favorite “mommy moment” so far?
Augie gave Maverick a hug this morning. That’s the best one so far, but I’m sure there will be another in 15 minutes. They are best friends and they show it to me every day in small ways and each time is the best time.
What’s your favorite thing to do when you need some “me time”?
I schedule a facial or massage with one of my estheticians or massage therapists. It may seem like an obvious answer coming from a spa owner, but I got into the business because I believe in it. That hour or so that I have on the table is my chance to recharge and I love it.
How did your career change after becoming a mom?
I worked on my feet on film sets for 16 hours a day before my first kid was born. As a producer and make-up artist it was often my job to be on set first in the morning and last in the evening. That wasn’t going to work once I had kids. But I found ways to stay involved in the industry and keep up with the latest trends in skincare.
Why did you open Spavia?
We were looking for a home base and a way to put down some roots. I’ve been an esthetician for 11 years and it’s always been a dream of mine to own and operate a spa. The time felt right so we went for it and opened Spavia!
Tell us about Spavia.
Spavia is a franchise based out of Colorado but for us it’s our family business. We shopped around for the best spa concept we could find and this one hit the mark. Spavia is a resort-quality day spa that delivers luxury at an affordable price. We offer premier massages, facials, waxing and body wraps in a professional and relaxing environment.
How do you balance career & mommyhood?
Google calendar? But truthfully it’s a lot of communication with my team, my husband, my parents, my mother-in-law and everyone in between.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?
Schedule time for yourself or you won’t remember to take it. Everyone needs a little me time!
