Meet A Mom: Christine | Stamford Moms

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
2 – my son is 7 months old and my daughter is 29 months old.

What did you like about growing up in Stamford?
Everything beach! Fireworks on the 4th of July, cook outs at Cove Island, and kayaking in the sound.

What’s your favorite family activity in Stamford?
The beach! I love going to the different public beaches with my kids and watching my daughter swim, find shells and creatures, and play on the playgrounds there.

Where’s your favorite place to eat in Stamford?
I am such a coffee shop person, so I’m really happy Stamford is getting more and more good ones – Humbled and Cafe Oolala are two of my favs.

What are your diaper bag must haves when you leave the house?
Snacks, a charged phone, and diapers.

What’s been your favorite “mommy moment” so far?
The first time I held both of my children is really hard to beat! Other times I absolutely love, over and over again, are reading bedtime stories and dance parties in our living room.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you need some “me time”?
Go on a run, bikeride, or get a latte by myself or with a friend.

Tell us about your career & what do you love about your job?
I’m a school psychologist, which I didn’t even know existed when I was in school myself. I conduct evaluations for special education, lead counseling and social skills groups, and consult with parents, teachers, and administrators all the time to help students learn and feel better in school. I love my job, although it can be stressful. I love meeting and interacting with different people everyday and listening to kids’ perspectives.

How do you balance career & mommyhood?
I’ve given a lot of thought to this – it’s one of the hardest things a woman has to do! Since my daughter has been born, I’ve learned to get as much of my work done at possible while I’m physically at work. I try not to check my email or write at home, like I used to. This meant less socializing at work for sure, but it was worth it. I’ve just made a huge decision to stay home with my two kids now, which is scary and exciting at once. I’m hoping this will allow my to focus on my kids while they’re young and then jump back into my career when I know they’re old enough to be in school and other activities throughout the day. It’s like a long-term way of finding balance (in theory!)

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?
Always put your oxygen mask on first. Sounds cliche, but it’s really easy to forget that you need to care for yourself in order to keep your family healthy and happy. For me this means literally reminding myself to drink coffee and water, put on clothes I feel comfortable and good about myself in, and talking to other grown ups throughout the day.
