Connecticut Ballet Center, the official school of Connecticut Ballet, has announced its two-week Summer Intensive, August 6-10 and August 13-17. Classes will be held at the air-conditioned studios at Connecticut Ballet Center, 20 Acosta Street, Stamford.Designed for the pre-professional dancer, ages 8-18, the Intensive provides a unique opportunity to study with guest instructors teaching a wide variety of dance genres, including musical theatre, Flamenco, tap, Character dance, mime, yoga and Pilates. Based on an initial placement class, students will take a daily ballet technique class at the appropriate level. Intermediate/advanced students will also have pointe and variations classes to build strength and broaden their knowledge of the classical repertoire.
Three special workshops will be held during the Intensive: Make-up for the Dancer will feature local make-up artist Emily Goldstein, providing helpful tips about facial care and hands-on training in make-up application for the stage; the 2nd workshop will be Injury Prevention for the Dancer, led by dance physical therapist Samara DiMattia. Dancers will learn how to recognize and treat common physical ailments associated with ballet training and how to prevent chronic over-use injuries. The third workshop, Figure Drawing for the Dancer, will be led by world-renowned local sculptor Paige Bradley.
Director Brett Raphael had this to say about the 2018 Intensive: “It will be an amazing opportunity for young dancers from around the region to sample a diverse array of classes taught by an extraordinary faculty. A true ‘growth experience,’ all delivered in a positive and careful teaching environment.”
