6 Tips To Avoid Packing On The Pounds Before New Years! | Stamford Moms

The holidays mean lots of parties, food, dessert and drinks! The problem (for me, at least) is that everything usually looks and smells too delicious not to try! Unfortunately, it isn’t a great tactic for my waistline! So, what should we do between now and New Years to avoid packing on a bunch of unwanted pounds? I turned to my trainer, Lauren Seib for some useful tips to keep us all on the right track!

Here’s what Lauren recommends:

  1. Follow the 80/20 rule. Give your workouts and diet a little (20%, that is…) wiggle room.
  2. Move more. I mean, there is a ton of shopping, gift wrapping and festive frolicking to do! Invite the family in on the action, too. My crew goes for a long walk on Christmas after our travels. It shakes off the long car ride and burns off the first cocktail. Our intense ping-pong tournaments also keep the metabolism stoked! A lot of local towns have “Jingle Bell Rock” (or something of the sort) races to participate in, too.
  3. Ask Santa for a fitness-related gift. Lots of studios have awesome class pack sales right now, and they make a great gift!
  4. Find balance. Plan your cardio/HIIT days on party days and be smart when it comes to snacking. Fill your plate with protein and a rainbow of veggies (the fiber will keep you full!) first before snagging grandma’s famous cookie.
  5. Keep your stress to a minimum. For me, that means prioritizing yoga and sleep. It’s the most wonderful, yet crazy, time of the year. Santa’s watching so don’t overdo it!
  6. Drink up… water, that is! Getting boozy? Alternate every adult beverage with the OG… H2O.
