How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
Two boys, ages 6 & 8

What do you love about living in Stamford?
I love the community and events. I feel like there is always something going on! There are also tons of great restaurants here.

What’s your favorite restaurant and/or place to shop in Stamford?
My favorite restaurants are Layla’s Falafel and Slice Pizza.

Tell us about your business, Practical Medicine, LLC.

I started Practical Medicine in 2021 because I feel like there’s a real disconnect between modern medicine and what it means to be healthy. The root cause of many of our ailments today can be attributed to gut health and addressed holistically with vitamins, herbs, homeopathy, dietary and lifestyle changes, but addressing these root causes takes time and personal attention. Practical Medicine is a whole new way to encounter and implement medicine; incorporating Functional Medicine and Nurse Coaching to get to your root cause and support the health changes you want to make. I believe that holistic health comes from practical changes and Practical Medicine empowers you to attain your personal vision of health and wellness.

What is the inspiration behind your business?
My inspiration came from my experience as an Emergency Room nurse where I saw how modern medicine was quick to diagnose the immediate symptom but was much worse at identifying the underlying cause. Identifying the underlying origin requires a more holistic view of a person’s health and entails a more in-depth investigation, something modern medicine is not geared for.

Tell us about the events you host and the impact you hope they have on the community.
My current Gut Health and Healing Masterclass will be on March 27, 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Haute Healing Oasis in Stamford and will help people to better understand their gut health, how it affects every system of the body and most importantly how to heal the gut!

I love to host health education-based events and classes to bring more awareness to holistic health and our options for healing. My hope is that this will also bring more like-minded moms together on our journey through holistic health and healing. For more information about my upcoming event, you can get more details here!

What is your #1 piece of advice for moms looking to improve their own health.
Listen to your gut! This is my top piece of advice when it comes to your health. Listen to your gut when you know something isn’t right. Advocate for yourself and seek out answers from trusted medical sources. You are the person who knows your body the best, no one should tell you what you are experiencing is “normal” if it doesn’t feel normal to you. If you are having issues digesting certain foods or avoiding other foods all together because of sensitivity, your gut is trying to tell you something. It needs healing! So, listen to your gut.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?
The best piece of advice I’ve ever gotten from another mom is to make sure you set aside time for yourself. We sometimes get lost in our very important job as a mom and forget that we need self-care too. It’s so important to manage our stress levels and create time for ourselves every day!
