Superintendent of Stamford Public Schools, Dr. Earl Kim released the following letter on Wednesday, addressing mold concerns in the district.
To SPS Staff and Families:
In addition to communication directly from principals regarding building-specific concerns and the detailed information on the Mold Task Force webpage, following is our most recent update.
Building Progress:
- Newfield – The two new temporary portables are expected to be delivered to Newfield by the end of the month.
- Westover – The Mold Task Force is awaiting the architectural engineering firm’s final assessment to determine whether a fall reoccupation is viable.
- Roxbury and Northeast – Cleaning and remediation work is commencing on HVAC vents, ceiling tiles, and pipe insulation in both schools. Parents and staff have been notified.
- Hart Magnet and Newfield – We have begun the next phase of addressing those issues highlighted in the comprehensive building assessment found on the Mold Task Force webpage. Communication to staff and families is forthcoming.
Staffing: Currently six staff members are out due to mold-related health issues.
Public Conversations: The Mold Task Force continues to host public meetings each Wednesday at the Government Center to address specific concerns. The Task Force also continues to meet with school leaders, staff and PTO representatives before major projects begin.
Remember, our annual Public Hearing on the budget is Thursday, February 7, at Rogers International School. Our high school debate teams will kick off the evening with an Exhibition Debate at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Public Hearing at 7:00 p.m. I hope that you will plan to attend and let us know what is important to our schools, our community and to you.
