Eclipse Extravaganza

Experience the Great North American Eclipse of 2024 at the SM&NC!
This will be North America’s only chance to witness a total solar eclipse within the next 20 years, with Connecticut the closest it will ever be to the path of totality within many of our lifetimes. The next total Solar Eclipse visible here will be in 2079, and that’s more than half a century away!
Stamford will experience nearly 92% totality at 3:26 pm, at which time the sun will resemble the slightest crescent moon. We’ll measure the drop in temperature from the eclipse’s start to its point of greatest totality. There will be fun science experiments, presentations, crafts, and of course, places to safely view the eclipse and glimpse the full glory of the Sun’s corona, only visible during a full solar eclipse like this! Feel free to join us for the whole time, or drop in for just a bit to see how the eclipse is progressing.
You’ll also get to hear about the construction of our new Planetarium & Astronomy Center, which is going to be a monumental game changer for our entire region and beyond.
A complete list of programs and details will be available as the event approaches. Eclipse glasses will be available for purchase (while supplies last) or you may bring your own. You can get your glasses now at our Gift Shop; they make exciting gifts for people of all ages!
Be sure to follow us on social media for the most current updates and information. Please note, with the exception of Director’s Circle, glasses will not be provided, so be sure to get your pair(s) in advance.
